Fueling Productivity: Creating Healthier Eating Habits

The Problem

The problem we are addressing with this training for employees at CarePath Health Group is the impact of emotional eating on both personal well-being and workplace productivity. Many employees, particularly those in high-stress environments like healthcare, turn to emotional eating as a coping mechanism for stress, fatigue, or emotional strain. This habit can lead to energy crashes, reduced focus, and long-term health issues, ultimately affecting job performance and overall quality of life. For CarePath Health Group, this issue translates into lower employee productivity, higher absenteeism, and potential burnout among healthcare professionals, which can hinder the quality of patient care.

I propose of solution of a needs analysis of the most common stressor of CarePath Health Group employees followed by training to help employees manage emotional eating and adopt healthier stress-relief strategies, CarePath can support a healthier, more resilient workforce while improving job satisfaction and the organization’s overall efficiency.

The Solution

To solve the problem, I proposed the creation of a scenario-based eLearning experience where the wellness manager could evaluate real-world interactions with employees and identify opportunities to bolster employee productivity while decreasing burnout.

Some of the reasons e-Learning is the best solution for this problem is:

  • it is flexible, easily scalable, and can be seamlessly applied to various working environments (in-person, hybrid, and remote).

  • it allows learners to revisit the material, making it a more cost-effective solution than other options.

  • it can help solve existing issues and be used as part of the employee wellness program as an annual refresher.

In addition to this scenario-based e-learning experience, I recommended additional steps that could take this learning a step further for the use and application of the skills learned, such as:

  • implement quarterly group learning meetings led by the wellness program director to discuss real-world scenarios with peers to create a supportive and collaborative learning environment.

  • create an on-demand library, using this course as the first addition, of e-learnings and trainings that would allow the learner to understand, apply, and reflect on the best practices of this soft skill with peers. Each learning should build upon one another to maximize the learning experience.

Process

After conducting a needs analysis and assessing the specific needs of CarePath Health Group employees to identify stressors, emotional eating patterns, and productivity challenges in the healthcare environment, I worked with the wellness Program manager to define clear learning objectives, such as improving emotional awareness, adopting healthier coping strategies, and enhancing workplace productivity. I then began to create engaging content, including interactive modules, videos, case studies, and real-life scenarios tailored to healthcare professionals. This includes strategies for managing stress and emotional eating. After the creation of the content within storyboard, I entered the first review cycle.  Upon approval, I created the complete script and functional prototype.  After another review cycle, I rolled the training out as a pilot with a small group of employees to gather feedback, make improvements, and ensure the training is user-friendly and effective. Upon final feedback and approval the final product was integrated into CarePath's existing Learning Management System (LMS) for easy access by employees.

Because I was working with busy healthcare professionals, I ensured to continuously monitor the effectiveness of the training through surveys, performance metrics, and feedback to ensure it meets the desired outcomes and make adjustments as necessary.

Mind Mapping

Mind mapping for this training project involves visually organizing ideas and concepts related to emotional eating and productivity. It starts with a central theme, "Fueling Productivity: Addressing Emotional Eating for Employee Well-Being," and branches out to key areas to help organize project planning like employee challenges, training goals, content topics, delivery methods, and desired outcomes.

Each branch can be further broken down into subtopics, such as interactive tools, and assessments. This approach helped me to structure the training content, ensuring all relevant areas are covered and interconnected, while making the project easier to plan and develop.

Interactive Prototype

Using the text-based storyboard and course creation outline, I moved on to create an interactive prototype in Rise 360 and Vyonda. The prototype allowed me to seek feedback on module programming and the overall user experience. I included several interactive sections, engaging but not distracting transitions, short scenarios, and more. Throughout this stage of development, I collaborated with other instructional designers and used feedback from user tests to enhance the overall flow of the learning experience.

Full Development

Once I had finalized the interactive learning experience based on the feedback received, I was ready to complete the development of the eLearning course. Full development was straightforward and quick with the guidance of each of the previous building blocks.
